Marissa,
I also agree that Canessa and Parrado seem to be the two major heroes in Alive. However, the one thing that I found interesting was that in the book, I felt like Parrado was the more prominent hero whereas, in the film adaptation, I thought Canessa stood out more. This could be attributed to the fact that the movie focuses largely on…[Read more]

Sara Cook replied to the topic Who is the real hero in Big Fish? in the forum Film Talk 7 years, 1 month ago
Cassidy,
I agree with your analysis of the film and identifying Will as the hero. While I was watching Big Fish, I thought that it was difficult to identify who the hero was. Initially, I saw Edward as the hero but the ending proves Will as the hero. I agree with you that because Will is more dynamic than Ed, he is a hero. Edward is the hero of…[Read more]

<span style=”font-weight: 400;”>The 1942 film </span><i><span style=”font-weight: 400;”>Casablanca</span></i><span style=”font-weight: 400;”>, directed by Michael Curtiz, features Rick Blaine in the role of hero. Blaine strikes me as an unusual hero due to his apathetic and seemingly neutral attitude regarding the politics of the time. Unlike the…[Read more]

I found it interesting in Paradiso how Dante uses a white rose to symbolize the highest “level” of Paradise where the most blessed reside. It struck me at first as an odd comparison because, at least in my […]

Here is a great resource that I have used to help me in the past with reading Inferno. Even though I have read Inferno multiple times, this website helps me keep the different circles and key sinners in order.
I figured this might be helpful in making connections between Inferno and Beloved for those who have read Dante and for those who ha…[Read more]

Sara Cook edited the blog post Toni Morrison’s Inspiration? in the group American Studies: 7 years, 7 months ago
Having previously read Beloved, and now reading A Mercy, I found myself curious about some more of Toni Morrison’s background. In particular, I was curious about where the inspiration for her books came from, considering both had a similar context and themes. Interestingly, I found out that Morrison was born in Ohio and attended an integrated sc…[Read more]
