Dorothea Kuntze replied to the topic Jay Gatsby as an Anti-Hero in the forum Film Talk 9 years, 11 months ago
I am torn with the argument that Gatsby was a tragic hero and that he was an anti-hero. At times it does appear that Gatsby’s greatest weakness is his love for Daisy. That being said, Gatsby does not obtain his wealth through honorable means. After one of his parties a man is beaten by his servants (to which we assume are Gatsby’s orders). He is…[Read more]

I agree with all of the statements and reviews. After this movie ended I was overwhelmed with a feeling of confusion and dissatisfaction. The whole movie created tension between the family, but never revealed the reasoning. As for the plot, it was more a series on unanswered questions rather than a story line: What happened to their mother?…[Read more]

I agree that you can see many aspects of Campbell’s classic hero in the film “Big Fish”. Two aspects that haven’t been mentioned so far though are the idea of the goddess and the boon. I think Edward’s wife Sandra […]

Black and white films are considered classics, but are often overlooked by viewers. If one were to present the idea of a black and white movie to a class, it is fair to assume that an audible groan would be emitted from majority of the students. Black and white movies pale in comparison to modern…[Read more]
