Hi everyone,
I’ve been thinking that I might have a cool idea for a poetry exercise. Obviously a lot of our class time has revolved around looking at each other’s work, and regardless of the extent to which it […]

So I’m looking through these comments and Diego, you need to make that into a poem. I can so see the first six sentences of your comment being a poem if you expanded upon them! Random, I know, but I just had to […]

Hi all,
I’d love to hear how all of your poetry meet-ups went today! Pam, Diego and I were pretty productive in ours. It was really interesting to do a study of one person’s works in progress and look at […]

Evan,
It seems from your reasoning it out within the post that above all, you need to have your own carved out space away from everyone else in order to write; I don’t think you differ from anyone else in this, […] -

In looking for things to post about, today I decided to check VerseDaily (which I really should just make a habit of–they always have great pieces.) Today’s poem of the day, which I included below, is called […]

Dear Pam,
This is really great; it sounds like you had a truly awesome experience at CUPSI. While I don’t have much knowledge about slam poetry and how it differs from what we practice in class, what spoke to me […] -

To add to this, I tried Sarah’s exercise last night and it totally worked for me! While I didn’t end up writing a prose piece, it got me started on something that I plan to continue! Woo for poem-ing!

I think this is a really great idea for an exercise! Usually in my case, and I know Juliana spoke about this as well, the hardest part is putting words on the page. For this prompt, you’ve already got words on […]

I should start by saying that I definitely am going to try some of the exercises that you’ve all blogged about. For me, the hardest part about a poem is the beginning, because you’ve got to get yourself to think […]

I agree that you’re definitely on to something with this distinction, Margot. I think that sometimes it comes in the way we label things–being that all of the work in LP is there because the poets are renowned […]

That is a pretty cool line! I also love the follow-up of how the furniture “snitched on us in the morning —” because it brings a new thought to my head when I think of furniture. After all that’s so much of […]

Ashley Olin commented on the post, Prose Poems vs. Lyric Essays, on the site The Contemporary Poem 9 years ago
Hey Sarah,
I’m in the same boat; I think prose poetry is a super interesting avenue but is also incredibly unexplored. As we all found out in class today, it seems that we’re all still fairly uncertain what […] -

Hi Chloe,
I think it’s cool that you brought up the idea of taking art from one medium to another. You’re on to something where this is concerned–maybe what you’re feeling by the whole process being easier is […] -

Thank you guys so much for all your feedback!
Sarah, I totally agree that I also put way too much pressure on myself for any first draft of a poem. I think it’s really my own state of mind that prohibits me from […] -

Personally, I do not have any experience with slam poetry, although it seems like something that is really fun to both write and perform. My impressions of it are that the images/subject matters function much the […]

For a while now, I’ve been feeling like my writing process gets in the way of the time I actually spend writing. This is becoming problematic to the point at which I’m having a lot of trouble sitting down and […]
