Today we often go about our business and give little thought to what might lay in the ground beneath our feet. Recently, in what is being called Paris’ archaeological find of the year, about 200 skeletons were discovered buried beneath a super market. Lead archaeologist Isabelle Abadie explains: “The fact that so many people were buried together, that the grave is this large, tends to show us that there was a major mortality crisis,” The cause of death is likely to be famine or plague, but further study is necessary. Regardless, the images of these burials are bone chilling (*cues laugh track*) and have an aesthetic that is reminiscent of a horror flick. I wonder if that super market is haunted…
