    • In reading Chapter 3 of Gleick’s book I was probably most astonished at how long it took for alphabetization to be used commonly. I was surprised that by the time of Shakespeare most people still did not know how to alphabetize and I found it interesting that in coming up with the first ever dictionary, Cawdrey also needed to provide a manual of how alphabetization worked. A connection between the two writings of Metadata and The Information would be the use of metadata in organizing information. Both texts spoke about the advance in technology when more knowledge was added which would help specify and narrow down information for the user. My question after reading the chapter however would be how the use of metadata helped Cawdrey in creating such a basic object like the dictionary. What help did it present to him in his creation of the dictionary?
