I agree with the connections you made to the movie and fairy tales as we’ve learned about them. In a different aspect, I think the idea of Marty the writer and Billy helping him also relates to fairy […]

I definitely agree with you. During the film, Scott was very hesitant to move forward and continue to defeat Ramona’s evil exes. Stacey and Wallace together helped Scott to think reasonably and realize how he wanted to move forward. Wallace had a larger part in mentoring Scott because he lived with him and was around Scott’s problems more…[Read more]

Often in films, a singular hero will be identified and praised as the viewer follows this person’s journey throughout the film. Terrence Malick’s The Thin Red Line presents an alternate structure in which many characters are presented as heroes. While there is a slightly sharper focus on Private Witt, most of the film does not focus on a si…[Read more]

Cassidy,

I think your analysis of the real hero of the story is spot on. While the fabricated stories of Will’s father might suggest he is the hero, Will, in the end, is able to change as a character and provide his father with a death story fitting for a hero.

I think that Edward, through his stories, tries to fit himself into Campbell’s…[Read more]

I completely agree with both of your interpretations of the movie. While I do see Heather’s point of Rachel portraying a Campbellian type goddess figure, I agree that I saw Rachel more as a sexual object of desire. I think her character was lacking development that would have classified her as a strong female lead and was often…[Read more]
